NEW YORK / RankWire.AI / – Gold experienced an increase of more than 1% on Thursday, rebounding from its lowest point in over three weeks. The spot price of gold climbed 1.1% to $4,434.70 per ounce by 04:25 GMT. Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures rose 1.5% to reach $4,480.10. During the session, the dollar index weakened, and U.S. Treasury yields decreased from recent multi-year highs. This upward move followed notable volatility in bullion prices during Wednesday trading.

Early on Wednesday, gold dropped to $4,304.01 an ounce, marking a 0.6% decline at 00:17 GMT, which was its weakest level since August 7. At the same time, December U.S. gold futures declined 1% to $4,350.80 during the initial dip. Later, prices reversed course. By 17:57 GMT, spot gold reached $4,376.41, while December futures closed 0.4% higher at $4,414.60. The market’s recovery extended into Thursday’s trading session.
This recent movement was driven by market reactions to U.S. interest rate expectations and new economic data. Traders assigned a 62% likelihood of a rate hike in September. The Federal Reserve is scheduled to hold its next policy meeting on September 15 and 16. Throughout the week, gold remained sensitive to fluctuations in the dollar and government bond yields. Thursday’s gains lifted bullion prices more than $130 above Wednesday’s intraday low.
Gold recovers after reaching a three-week low
Market attention also shifted to the upcoming key U.S. employment report. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release the August Employment Situation report on Friday, September 4, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The report will include data on nonfarm payrolls, the unemployment rate, and other employment indicators. This release follows several economic reports that have coincided with significant movements across precious metals, currencies, and government bonds.
In addition to gold, other precious metals bounced back on Thursday after prior declines. Spot silver increased 1.2% to $66.08 an ounce. Platinum gained 1% to $1,777.79, and palladium rose 0.8% to $1,356.50. On Wednesday, silver had fallen to $63.60 in early trading, while platinum dropped to $1,722.23 and palladium declined to $1,292.21 amid broader market weakness.
Precious metals move back into positive territory
Thursday’s gold price stood roughly 3% above its intraday low from the previous day. U.S. gold futures also saw a significant rebound from Wednesday’s early levels. Futures shifted from $4,350.80 during the decline to $4,480.10 on Thursday. These latest gains pushed gold back above $4,400 after its brief dip to early August lows. Silver, platinum, and palladium also traded above their Wednesday lows.
Several upcoming U.S. economic reports are scheduled for September, including producer price data on September 10 and consumer price figures on September 11. The Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting begins on September 15 and ends the following day. Gold entered Thursday with renewed strength after a volatile two-day period. The overall precious metals complex also rallied, recouping part of the losses experienced earlier in the week.
